Beau-ty

By Jeremy D. Joy

“He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also He has put eternity in their hearts, except that no one can find out the work that God does from beginning to end” (Ecclesiastes 3:11).

We should not be ashamed of wanting to be surrounded with beautiful things because God created beauty for our pleasure. The beauty of the natural world is a language that God uses to communicate His divine power and nature (Psalm 19:1-4). It is the way everything was made. The cooing of a baby...The warm salty ocean breeze...The tall majestic mountains...The millions of stars on a summer night...The gentle touch of a loved one. These are not freak accidents of time and chance! But beauty is not limited to the natural world. We can also “worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness” (1 Chronicles 16:29) in this life and join with the redeemed in praising Him throughout eternity in our beautiful resurrection bodies (1 Corinthians 15:42-44).
