By Jeremy D. Joy “And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope” (Romans 5:3-4).
Suffering is common to the human experience, but how we view suffering is what distinguishes Christians from the world. For people without God, suffering has no purpose and produces nothing good; for people who trust God, it is hard, but it weans us from spiritual immaturity and ultimately leads to our redemption.
Jesus endured hardship qualifying Him to be our compassionate and sympathetic High Priest. His best friends betrayed Him; the crowds plotted to kill Him; and even His family doubted Him at first. Then he was tortured and executed like a common criminal on a cross. Through His suffering, He became our Savior and through our suffering, we can obtain salvation and be perfected in our character.
