Com-fort-er

By Jeremy D. Joy

“The Comforter, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in My name, He shall teach you all things and bring all things to your remembrance, whatever I have said to you” (John 14:26 MKJV).

Jesus promised the apostles that He would send the Holy Spirit who is also called the Comforter referring to someone who eases our hurts and pains. The apostles would mourn that Jesus was not bodily at their side, but the Comforter would replicate Jesus by reminding them of His teaching and revealing even more of His teaching to them. He also comforts us as He coaches, guides, encourages, teaches, and restores—through the word of God, which transforms us into the image of Jesus. It is the next best thing to having Jesus in person! When we are weak and hopeless, He can inspire courage in our hearts and even intercede for us when we cannot express the innermost longings of the heart (Romans 8:26). What a comfort indeed!
