Fel-low-ship |
|
By Jeremy D. Joy “And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers” (Acts 2:42).
Simply mention the word “fellowship” to some people and they can smell the coffee and donuts, but “fellowship” involves more than social interaction. It means “communion” and implies sharing something in common. For the believer, it is a state or condition that we have with other believers as a result of receiving salvation. It involves growing together as the body of Christ by investing time and energy in our relationships with one another. The local church provides the framework for fellowship, but the intimacy that we should experience in the local church is sometimes lacking. People become discouraged and disappointed and search for meaning and purpose in other ways. We should share our lives with one another to the extent that we can “rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep” (Romans 12:15).
