Whose Example Should We Imitate?

We are influenced to a greater or lesser degree by the life and example of people, positive or negative. In writing to a church about a problem, John the Apostle mentions the names of three men - Gaius, Diotrophes, and Demetrius - painting a portrait of their behavior and character. So, of the three, whose example should we imitate?
